1000Ks 4 Kids cycling challenge raises $398,000 and counting!

On the 15th September, 58 exhausted cyclists rode into Rutherford finishing the epic 1,008km journey. The 10 day ride had taken them from the Gold Coast all the way to Rutherford to raise life-changing funds for kids facing cancer.

1000Ks 4 Kids is a unique riding challenge that sees ordinary people doing the extraordinary to help Camp Quality give kids facing cancer the chance to be kids again. The ride also brought Camp Quality’s Primary School Education Program to primary schools along the route. The fun and educational puppet show teaches students how to be supportive of their peers facing their own cancer diagnosis or the diagnosis of a loved one.

Grace Elkin completed the challenge for the second time this year, and says her inspiration for taking part was her experience as a volunteer on Camp Quality Camps.

"I have been involved with Camp Quality for 3 years now. I came onboard as a volunteer as soon as I turned 18,” Grace says. “Seeing the joy that they experience and the smiles on their faces as they are given the opportunity to just be kids again, made me just want to help. The ride has allowed me to jump on the other side and contribute to the fundraising that allows the children to go on camp and receive the many other services that Camp Quality provide.”

Kylea Tink, Camp Quality CEO, is extremely grateful for the support and commitment of the event entrants and their supporters.

“People assume Camp Quality receives significant funding from Federal or State Government to assist us, but sadly this is not the case", Ms Tink said. “Camp Quality relies heavily on the generosity of everyday Australians and 1000ks 4 Kids is a great example of how community fundraising can change the cancer story for Australian families in the toughest time of their lives.”

The riders finished the journey with a much-deserved celebration at the Bradford hotel surrounded by friends and family.
